Baltimore Museum of Art: The Monument Quilt
Mora Fernández, our Founder and CEO, was invited to a virtual panel discussion organized by the Baltimore Museum of Art to commemorate the acquisition of 10 blocks of The Monument Quilt, a project of the Baltimore and Mexico City based FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture collective. You can hear the stories of the organization’s members and leaders as they discuss the national and international impact of the project, their participation in the quilt-making, and the struggles of navigating a growing collective made for and by survivors.
The Monument Quilt is a collection over 3,000 stories created by survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence and our allies, written, painted, and stitched onto red fabric. In the project’s 6 active years, our stories literally blanketed highly public, outdoor places to create and demand space to heal, and resist a singular narrative about sexual violence. A photograph of each quilt is archived at app.themonumentquilt.org.
